During the installation process we recommend using blue-tack or light tape to help position a new sensor before finally using the provided adhesive pad on the back to attach it permanently. However, there may be reasons you need to move a sensor to a new placement, or remove the sensors permanently at some point.
The vibration and door sensors are typically installed using strong 3M adhesive stickers, we would recommend one of the following methods to remove these if it is required.
A hair dryer on low heat:
Unclip the body of the sensor away from the attached backplate
Gently press down on the ridged thumb press located at the top of the sensor
Once pressed, you can pull the body of the sensor toward you, to remove it, leaving just the backplate attached to the surface/wall/door
Take a hair dryer, and using a low heat warm the backplate area for a couple of minutes
This will gently remove the adhesive layer from the sticker
Then carefully pull the sensor from the location it is placed, it should come away fairly easily
Any remaining adhesive can be cleaned off using warm soapy water, or cleaning alcohol depending on the surface
Using a non-sharp knife:
Unclip the body of the sensor away from the attached backplate
Gently press down on the ridged thumb press located at the top of the sensor
Once pressed you can pull the body of the sensor toward you, to remove it, leaving just the backplate attached to the surface/wall/door
Take a non-sharp knife, such as a palette knife, and gently slide it underneath the adhesive layer that sticks the backplate to the surface it is on
This may take a little more force than using the hair-dryer method
More residue may be left behind, but again can be cleared away with warm soapy water, or cleaning alcohol applied carefully to the surface in question
All of the other sensors (sleep sensor, home hub, kettle, wearable) will not be attached in any way, and can safely be unplugged and moved as required. Please note that the home hub needs to be connected at all times in order to receive and process data.
If you are moving MySense to a new home, the sensors that have been removed may need new 3M or equivalent pads to reattach around the house, these can be found at a normal hardware store if required.
The home hub and sensors will not need to be set up again via the app, but will remain paired, they will automatically come back online when the home hub is reconnected, and the sensors are back in range when placed in a new home.
